The Breeder’s Cup is little more than five weeks away. Although this appears to be a long time from now, it is actually the best time for future bettors to take a look at what BetUS offers in terms of overlays in the Sprint Division.

The reason is simple, the Sprint Division is wide open - no matter what Midnight Lute did last week in the Forego at Saratoga - and getting money down on a horse now may help you on Breeder’s Cup Day. The horse betting odds will change dramatically from now until Breeder’s Cup Day, all the way up to the race actually, as all prep races have not been completed.

Horse race future odds on Midnight Lute, the without doubt leader of the Sprint Division at this point, are not being offered by BetUS right now. That shouldn’t matter as Midnight Lute would, without a doubt, be the biggest underlay on any futures wager because of his suspect 124 Beyer he received after his Forego triumph. The horse had never run that fast before and he only beat Benny the Bull, a B-list sprinter, by 2 ¼ lengths. There is some question as to how good Midnight Lute truly is and a future wager on him, at what might be even money after the Forego win, is not recommended.

When placing future wagers in horses racing, it is better to look at horses that remain under the radar - - the horse that the public isn’t thinking about.

That means that Smokey Stover is not a good horse racing future bet either at +350. His odds translate to 3.5 to 1 and even though he has proven himself to be a quality animal, 3.5 to 1 on Stover are just too low of odds for the astute horse racing handicapper to take in a future bet.

The BetUS future wager odds on In Summation are also too low. On paper, +800 looks enticing. However, In Summation won his big sprint race on an artificial surface. He will be running on a very unique dirt surface on Breeder’s Cup Day and there is no telling if he will like it or not.

Fabulous Strike, at BetUS future wager odds of +1000, is a huge underlay. Like In Summation, the odds look good on paper, but Fabulous Strike really hasn’t done anything to merit less than +2000. He isn’t such a strong sprinter that you would expect him to run off in the Breeder’s Cup, nor does he have the true class to stay with some of the other top sprinters in the nation.

There are three horses on the BetUS future wager list to win the Breeder’s Cup Sprint that might deserve money. Idiot Proof – BetUS future wager odds - +1800

Idiot Proof may not get the best speed figures or run against the top competition, but he does win races and he wins them at Monmouth Park where the Breeder’s Cup is being held this year. It might make sense to put some money on Idiot Proof because of the classic “horse for course” angle.

Latent Heat: – BetUS future wager odds +2000

Latent Heat is as talented as a horse can get but, for some reason, doesn’t always put it together. The reason to like him, however, is because he is trained by Bobby Frankel who won the Breeder’s Cup Sprint with another horse that folks were iffy about, Squirtle Squirt, in 2001. When Frankel sneaks a horse into a Breeder’s Cup race, you can be assured that the horse is going to fire his or her best shot.

Teuflesberg: – BetUS future wager odds +3000

The reason to like Teuflesberg at odds of +3000 is that Teuflesberg is a classy animal who had a bad last race. None of the other horses in the BetUS future wager’s list have had to run against Street Sense and Dominican. None of the others have shown the ability to lay close or to come with a rush. Teuflesberg is an extremely dangerous horse in the Breeder’s Cup Sprint, should he run, and a future wager on Teuflesberg at odds of +3000 makes a lot of sense.

The Breeder’s Cup is only five weeks ago. Don’t wait to lay your money down on the horse you like until Breeder’s Cup Day if you can get better odds by placing a BetUS future wager.
